My Dog History

"If you lose a dog or find a dog, please contact www.doglost.co.uk. They will support you"

I was born animal mad...especially dogs. I still hear my Mum saying "for goodness sake , ask if it bites before you fling your arms round its neck!!" We had the family mongrel whom I taught lots of tricks, but he was Mums dog. As soon as I left school I adopted a lab X.....And then it snowballed... I knew I would like to breed & show dogs & after a few "other litters" I fell in love with the Bernese Mountain Dog.

In the early eighties, living in Sussex, there were few pups around, but after a long chain of phone calls, I found a bitch pup to buy in Berkshire. St. Fillans Astra became my foundation bitch. After moving to Cornwall in 1983, I was lucky enough to find a good stud dog in Penzance that I could use. I am now on generation 8 & have strived to remember that these are a Swiss family dogs that pulled carts to the creamery & helped work on the farm. They probably survived on scraps & dairy products & worked hard during the day. I believe we create a lot of the health problems we have in the breed today because we forget their origins.
I try to breed a big powerful dog that can walk the farm & check the stock & still be sound, can relax in the family home, deter when strangers may threaten...maybe a good woof !!!...but most of all, love the family they live with so they will always want to share their lives with a Bernese....as I do .

We also have 5 Tibetan Spaniels, bedroom dogs, all old & neutered but still trying to rule the roost, a Border terrier pup....please catch those rats!!!....2 Australian Shepherds, enough to try a saints patience....but great farm dogs, even though they have never quite managed to round up the sheep or cows....but I can tease the stallion, a couple of Leonberger pups...a breed I haven't had for a while, and a couple of good ole crossbreds.

KERNOW SPECIAL BRANCH...Ronnie to his friends.

He is my very special boy, loyal & gentle, strong but sensitive, a dog you can take anywhere. Ronnie has done Discover Dogs at Crufts for the last 2 years & loves his public!!! He is wonderful with children & the disabled. He also has an impressive show & stud career but most of all, he is my shadow.

June, 2007:  Ronnie has finally been made up to a Champion having gained his 3rd CC. He's been a popular winner in the showring being a real old fashioned working type Bernese. Thank you to all the judges who have thought so highly of him. To me he is my love & my star & I don't think he has ever put a paw wrong!

KERNOW OHSO SPECIAL...Vegas to his friends.

This is a son of Ronnie....but boy is he different!!!! He is my hooligan!!!! Not a bad bone in his body, but does everything at breakneck speed & god help you if you're in the way!!!! He is also very sensitive....& never meant to knock you flying!!! He is super sound & is doing very well in the show ring as he is maturing. He has a wonderful temperament & his stud career has produced some stunning big boned puppies.

Vegas has been doing well in the showring but is going to have some time out to grow on....I would say mature...he might in body but never in mind!!! He still does everything with enormous enthusiasm !! He has some stunning progeny out there...lots of winners!! Thanks to everyone for campaigning them so successfully.

KERNOW HOT GOSSIP....Houston to his friends.

Well we've got through the 1st 10 months!!!! Definitely a Vegas son...to be fair he hasn't been out a lot so when we go to a show....we have to say hi to everyone...with me in tow!!! It's like taking a bear for a walk!!! He has a magnificent head & bone to die for...back end needs to improve....but it is! Loves everyone & everything!!!

BANJO

Meet Banjo. He has been bought in, my line was getting tied in, he goes back to Kernow on both sides. What a stunner!!!! Moves like a wound up toy, is phased by nothing, sweet & sensitive too....I love him already....a future champion I think!

Banjo is growing into a lovely big boy with a super temperament. He loves life on the farm & has taken his place on the mule checking the stock! He has started his show career & enjoys the traveling & staying over at a friends or in a Travelodge! So far he has been well placed at every show & has qualified for Crufts 2008. Most of all he is our big clown!
